My Educational Philosophy

My belief of an efficient educational philosophy is one in which students are taught in a matter which will not only show results inside the classroom but also outside the classroom. For this, I believe that students are to be evaluated in a matter that will not only show results on paper but also in their way of thinking and acting. I will make sure the learning done by my students is one that will benefit them in an academic sense as well as past the classroom. In my classroom, students will be evaluated based on assignments that cultivate critical thinking skills that will help them past their school lives in many other facets, be this higher education or their professional lives.

To achieve this, students will be evaluated on assignments as opposed to the common general test. This way students will be learning by doing and practicing important skills instead of learning the needed information just to approve a test. Students will be graded on the work that they put in and on how far they have come, they will assess works with the teacher, peers and even themselves at times to reflect on how they can better and improve their own skills. Students will learn by seeing examples, be this from others or my own modeling, which will give them the necessary push they need.

I will make sure to provide an environment that takes diversity amongst students into account, as to not make any student feel detached or left out. I will make sure to try different learning techniques to get the best possible overall results from my students, and if these do not prove enough for certain students, ill go out of my way to find individual strategies that can help them succeed. My classroom will be one that will put the utmost importance on actively seeking out and ending oppression of all types and promoting respect amongst all.

Finally, my teaching will always be one of self-reflection. As educators, it's important for us to always be reflective of our work and make sure to seek out what works and what doesn’t. My teaching will always revolve around the students learning first and will continue to grow around this. I will make sure to always be self-reflective on my teaching and make sure to frequently self-assess it to keep it ever-evolving.
